Travel Q&A
How to get from the airport to your hotel in Morocco
Short answer You're tired, it's hot, you don't speak Arabic, and there are 14 men yelling "TAXI MY FRIEND" at you. Here's what to actually do.

Marrakech (RAK)
The airport is 6 km from the medina, ~15 minutes by road.
| Option | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Petit taxi (yellow), metered | 80–150 MAD | Insist on the metre (compteur). Refuse fixed prices over 200 MAD. |
| Petit taxi, fixed price | 150–250 MAD | Posted at the official taxi stand. Slightly overpriced but no hassle. |
| Riad-arranged transfer | 200–400 MAD | Driver with your name on a sign. Worth it after a long flight. |
| Airport bus #19 | 30 MAD | To Jemaa el-Fnaa, every 30 min. Slow but cheap. |
| Uber / inDriver / Careem | Variable | Uber is not active in Marrakech as of 2026. inDriver and Careem work intermittently. |
The scam to avoid: unmarked “taxis” outside arrivals quoting 300+ MAD. Walk to the official yellow taxi line.
Casablanca (CMN)
The airport is 30 km from the city centre, ~30–45 minutes.
| Option | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| ONCF train | 43 MAD | Best option. Runs every hour to Casa-Voyageurs, then connect onward. 35 min. |
| Grand taxi (white), shared | 50–80 MAD | To Casa-Port. Waits to fill 6 passengers. |
| Petit taxi, metered | 200–300 MAD | Direct to your hotel. |
| Careem / inDriver | 150–250 MAD | Works at CMN. |
The train is genuinely the right answer. Station is connected to the terminal by a covered walkway.
Fes (FEZ)
The airport is 15 km from the medina, ~25 minutes.
| Option | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Petit taxi, metered | 120–180 MAD | Insist on metre. |
| Petit taxi, fixed price | 150–200 MAD | Posted at official stand. |
| Riad transfer | 200–300 MAD | Useful, Fes medina is impossible to find. Your driver will hand you off to a porter with a wheelbarrow at the medina gate. |
| Airport bus #16 | 4 MAD | To the train station / Atlas district. Doesn’t go to the medina. |
For the medina, just book the riad transfer. Fes is the one airport where it’s worth the extra money.
Agadir (AGA)
The airport is 25 km from the city / Taghazout, 30 minutes.
| Option | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Petit taxi, metered | 200–300 MAD to Agadir, 350–500 MAD to Taghazout | Insist on metre. |
| CTM bus | 30–50 MAD | Cheap, but runs only a few times a day. |
| Hotel transfer | 300–500 MAD | Most surf camps in Taghazout arrange. |
Tangier (TNG)
The airport is 12 km from the medina.
- Petit taxi: 150–200 MAD, metered.
- Grand taxi: 30–40 MAD to the city center if you share.
- Bus #4 or #5: 4 MAD, runs every 30 minutes.
General airport survival rules
- Get cash first. ATMs are inside arrivals. Pull 1000–2000 MAD.
- Get a SIM or activate eSIM. See our SIM card guide.
- Show the driver your hotel name in writing (in French if possible). Phonetic English of Arabic place names goes badly.
- Have small bills. Drivers “don’t have change” for a 200 MAD note when the fare is 80 MAD.
- In the medina (Marrakech, Fes), cars don’t go in. You’ll be dropped at a gate; from there a porter (~20–30 MAD) helps you to your riad.
Common scams
- “The metre is broken.” It isn’t. Insist or get out and take the next taxi.
- “Your riad is closed, my brother has a nice one.” Ignore. Your riad is fine.
- “That’ll be 50 euros.” It won’t. The fare is in dirhams. Pay in dirhams.
